Fiat Linea Review
Fiat India launched the facelifted version of the Linea facelift in India in March 2014. It is now available in seven variants. The new Linea facelift gets a significant cosmetic updates both inside and outside but remains the same mechanically. It was first unveiled in Turkey in late 2012 and debuted in India at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi.Exterior
The facelifted Fiat Linea gets a revised fascia and the most noticeable changes are to the new bumper which now has more bling with a dash of chrome and houses the updated fog lamps console. The conservative square pattern grille has been ditched in favour of a more contemporary slat design. It is the same case with the Fiat logo which is now smaller and has more of a tear drop shape as compared to the current car’s round shape.
On the sides, the facelifted Fiat Linea remains the same as the current car and this includes the flared wheel arches, metallic strip running along the base as well as the forward slanting stance. The car is offered in six colours: Tuscan Wine, New Pearl White, Mangnesio Grey, Hip Hop Black, Sunbeam Gold and Minimal Grey.
At the rear, the facelifted Fiat Linea now gets a large chrome strip running along the width of the boot in a bid to give the car a more premium appeal. The number plate has now moved from the bumper to the bootlid and that gets a chrome strip as well. Thanks to the revision of the number plate, the logos and badging too have moved from just above the bumper to the top of the bootlid. A noticeable feature is the chrome strip under each of the brake light assemblies which by the look of it will further brighten the lamps when they are on.
Interior
Inside, the changes are more pronounced as the car gets a more premium two-tone dashboard and we expect that this will be offered across the range. The centre console has been redesigned and integrates a new audio system with Bluetooth support.
Storage space has been improved with the addition of cubby holes and the A/C vents have been restyled. The instrument cluster gets chrome rings to give it a more upmarket feel. However, most of the layout is carried over from the current car and will be familiar to those who have seen the car in its various avatars over the years. Some of the new additions over the standard features are cruise control and reverse parking sensors. The top-spec variants also get 16-inch alloy wheels, leather trim for seats, gear knob and steering, cruise control and climate control.
Engines
Under the hood, the facelifted Fiat Linea is now being offered with two petrol and one diesel engine options - the 1.4-litre naturally aspirated, 1.4-litre turbocharged T-Jet petrol and the 1.3-litre Multijet petrol. Only the base Active variant gets the naturally aspirated engine with an output of 89bhp and 115Nm of torque, the turbocharged petrol version produces 112bhp and 207Nm of torque while the oil-burner has an output of 93bhp and 209Nm of torque. All the engines are mated to a five-speed manual unit.
Competition
The Fiat Linea competes in the C-Segment with the Nissan Sunny, Tata Manza, Skoda Rapid, Renault Scala, VW Vento, Hyundai Verna, Ford Fiesta and the Honda City.
